Our Planters

Tommy and Heather Derrick

Tommy and Heather Derrick have been serving in ministry for over 25 years, focusing on children, youth, families, and congregations throughout Texas. They are proud parents of three daughters in their 20s: Hadley, who is serving in a church in East Texas; Caed, who is helping with the church plant; and Raegan, a student at TAMCC. Tommy holds a BA in Religion and Religious Education from Wayland Baptist and a MA in Global Leadership from Dallas Baptist, while Heather has a BA in Education from Wayland as well.

During the summer of 2024, we sensed God stirring our hearts to plant a new church, which will be launching soon. Since that stirring, we have been praying about the where and when, and it became clear that God was sending us to Corpus Christi. You can’t keep a planter from planting! With over 25 years of ministry experience, we have continually thought outside the box, identifying opportunities in the least likely places. Our creativity has been applied in various roles within established churches and new works. It has become increasingly evident that our calling and giftings, along with our educational background, are leading us toward starting a new church. As the world continues to shift, we believe that adopting a missional approach to making disciples is the best way to reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We firmly believe that church planting helps us accomplish this mission.

Caed Derrick

Caed Derrick grew up in ministry! Over the last couple of years, she has been actively involved in the student ministry at her church and served as a Texas BSM Missionary at Schreiner University, where she discipled college students. With her passion for community, Caed is excited about the launching soon of a New Church that is Centric to serving and empowering the next generation. She holds a BA in Anthropology from Texas Tech.

The Derricks are converting a 1958 “Canned Ham” camper into a coffee shop to support the launch of Centric Church, a new church aimed at connecting with the community in Corpus Christi. This venture will serve as a “tent making” source of income while fostering relationships.
